“13 Men of cleaning” is a project exploring the representation of the male body, between vulnerability, intimacy, and social roles. It investigates the male body in a simple yet highly symbolic situation: naked men photographed while doing cleaning. The project began from a spontaneous image: a naked man, after cleaning his home. A real, vulnerable body, far from any heroic or dominant representation. Project Development Over two years, the project took shape through meetings, refusals, and participations: 42 men contacted 29 refusals 13 participations (Marseille and Bologna) Refusals are an integral part of the work: they reveal modesty, resistance, no interest in the process but also the complex relationship with one’s own body and the gaze of others. Themes and Research The images open a space for reflection on: the vulnerability of the male body the representation of nudity domestic roles and gender constructs the relationship between visible and invisible The project questions traditional codes of masculinity, making visible what often remains hidden. The Number Thirteen The series deliberately stops at the thirteenth participant. The number thirteen marks a threshold, a symbolic break in order. In this context, it opens up the possibility of redefining the meaning of “being a man” and questioning binary models. An Open Project Today, “13 Men of cleaning” enters a new phase. With the support of the collective Les Hang’art and Christelle Dupart, some men are spontaneously coming forward to participate. Each participant comes as they are. There are no expectations, no judgments, no interpretations. Each person brings their own motivations, story, and relationship with their body and the environment. This is not about “posing”: it is simply about occupying space in the freest and most authentic way possible and respecting their limits (anonymity possible).
