Massilia by IPhone
Massilia by iPhone is an Instagram account dedicated to photography of Marseille, which I’ve been building since October 2020.
I take photos exclusively with my iPhone, at the pace of my life.
It’s a dialogue between this contradictory, multifaceted, surprising—and sometimes dreadful—city and me.
I walk, I live, I love, I hate, I work here. And the city responds. Or rather: it imposes itself. These are images that come to me, without me really seeking them out. Especially on the street—this street that speaks to me constantly—but also at events, exhibitions, concerts, at the seaside, and in the nature that surrounds Marseille.
Massilia by iPhone is this constant back-and-forth. An unstable relationship, made up of attraction and rejection. At times I’m amazed by its light, its energy, its freedom. At times I’m annoyed, overwhelmed, confronted with what I’d rather avoid. But I stay.
I will always be a stranger, a migrant. Once uprooted, there’s no longer a home. I look at my own life in Marseille as a tourist. And that perspective is part of the journey: a perspective that is always learning, discovering, letting itself be surprised.
This Instagram account is a way to maintain that dialogue. To look the city in the eye, in its beauty as well as its excesses. And to accept that it never stops transforming itself—nor transforming me in return.
